Ren stared at himself as he tugged once again on his shirt collar. A knock came from the door and he sighed. "Come in."

"Ren. It's about time for us to head to LME. Are you ready?" Yashiro asked as he came in and looked at his watch.

Ren smiled. "Of course, I'm ready." He quickly placed his jacket over a red and pink box. He strategically picked it up along with his jacket and headed toward the door. "I just wasn't sure if my shirt went well with this outfit."

Yashiro stopped as he watched Ren pass him out the door. "… You weren't sure if your shirt… went with your outfit?" He raised his eyebrow, before a huge grin spread across his face. "Ah. I see." He kept grinning as he followed behind Ren.

Ren pursed his lips as both of them headed to his car. He thought it was a good cover. But, no matter what, Yashiro always does think whatever he does has to involve her. He remained silent as he tightened his grip on his jacket along with the box.

"After all it is that day." He smiled as he stole a quick glance at Ren. "Of course, any man would want to look good for the girl he likes."

Ren sighed when they reached the car. He quickly gave Yashiro an angry glance and slid into the driver seat. Yashiro sat in the passenger seat and sulked. Ren never gives him the reactions he wants. "So, do you think she got you anything? Last year she gave you your birthday present instead of a Valentine's Day gift." Yashiro chuckled as he remembered how disappointed he was for Ren.

Ren gave a small smile as both men got out of the car and headed to the LME building. He never told Yashiro about the special gelee she gave him. Something different. Something that no one else received except for him.  He was the one special person that she made something different for.  And this year Ren was going to be the one to give her something. He knew that in Japan it's tradition for the males to receive gifts from girls on Valentines, but this year he would do the western tradition of giving the girl a gift. Since, last year he was not able to give her anything for White's Day. He smiled to himself, pleased at what he got her.

"What are you smiling about?" Yashiro questioned.

Ren continued smiling. "Nothing… It's nothing."

"Reeeeeen!!!" Ren was tackled by Maria the second he entered the LME building.
He smiled and picked her up. "Hello, Maria. How have you been?"

She blushed as she moved away to see Ren's face. "I've been great. I got you something for Valentine's Ren!" She quickly rummaged through her purse, causing Ren to set her down onto her feet. She pulled out a flat heart shaped box. "Here you go! Happy Valentine's Day, Ren!" She smiled as he took it.

"May I open it?" He smiled gently at her.

"Yes, please!" She blushed and hugged her cheeks. "I hope you like it! I made it with big sister's help!"

Big sister? She must mean Kyoko. He became more intrigued instantly. Would he be accepting the same item from Kyoko? He opened it and smiled. It was a gigantic snicker doodle cookie in the shape of a heart. Maria had designed a small flower with Ren's name on the middle of it. "Thank you very much, Maria. It's lovely. I love it very much." He patted her head as he covered it.

"I'm glad you like it." She blushed. She looked up at the clock and looked back at Ren. "I have to go see Grandpa now! I'll see you later, Ren!" She smiled and waved as she skipped toward the corridor to Lory's office.

"Well, isn't that sweet?" Yashiro smiled as he took Maria's present and put it in a separate bag of anticipated Valentine's gifts.

"Why do you have so many bags?" Ren questioned as he saw 15 empty bags in Yashiro's hands plus one containing Maria's gift.

"Just preparing myself. You should be receiving a lot of gifts this year, again. But, don't worry! I have a separate bag for Kyoko's!" He grinned as he teased Ren.

Ren sighed as he looked away. This year he was prepared for Kyoko to not give him any chocolates, but he was a bit anxious to see if she would make him something different yet again. He looked and glared at Yashiro. "You said the same things last year, but look how that ended." He was teasing Yashiro back. "Will you bring up my hopes to just be crushed by the end of the day, again?"

Yashiro gulped and averted his eyes. Ren could see Yashiro was feeling a bit guilty about that.

Ren chuckled. "I'm joking, Yashiro. Don't worry, even if she doesn't give me anything I won't be mad at you."

Yashiro remained silent as he looked at Ren.

Ren gave Yashiro a confused look. "Yashiro?"

"…So… You are expecting a gift from her!" He exclaimed and beamed in excitement.

He got him. Ren groaned. It was going to be a long day of teasing from Yashiro, today.

"Good morning, Mr.Tsuruga and Yashiro!" Kyoko beamed from behind Ren. She quickly gave the two of them a perfect bow before she looked up at them.

Both Ren and Yoshiro jumped back in fright. Since when has she been there? They both questioned in their heads.

"Ah. Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you?" She gave a small shy laugh.

Ren gave a small cough to get back his composure.  "Ms. Mogami, you're here early today."

"Yes. I want to give everyone their chocolates before I head to the set. I won't be able to come to the office any time, but today." She smiled. "I was waiting for you two before I left; you're the last ones I have to give them to."

Ren's heart skipped a beat. So, she was giving him something this year, too. He wished he could smile, but he would only look like a fool, especially since Yashiro was there, too.

Kyoko quickly passed by Ren and handed a small gray and blue box to Yashiro. "It's not much, but I hope you enjoy them." She slightly blushed as she smiled at him.

"Ah. Yes. Thank you, Kyoko." He voice shaked, he was beginning to feel nervous that yet again she did not get anything for Ren. He looked at Ren quickly before he opened the box. "Ah." He gave a short gasp as he saw four cookies in different designs. One chocolate chip, one snicker doodle, and two macadamia ones.

Ren bit his lip, what was he to receive? Kyoko turned around and gave a sweet smile to Ren. "Um…Mr. Tsuruga." She looked away as she hesitated.

He pursed his lips. "Yes?"

"Please, don't be mad at me, but… I accidentally left your gift at my set yesterday if you want I can give it to you tomorrow or something. Or I can try to come back later tonight here or at your house. I'm really sorry." She bowed and quickly rushed the ending.

Ren pursed his lips into a hard smile. He wasn't expecting this, she had gotten him a present yet she didn't have it. He blinked as he looked at her red neck, flushed from embarrassment. He smiled and tightened his grip on the jacket that he held with her present.

"That's fine, Ms. Mogami. You can come over to my place tonight and drop it off." He smiled his gentlemanly smile, hiding his true intentions.

"Welcome, Ms. Mogami." Ren smiled as he held the door open for Kyoko. She smiled as she entered the man's apartment with no hesitation. She stood at the entrance, not taking off her shoes.

"Sorry, for coming so late. I can just hand you your present here." She smiled as she went into her bag. A faint scent flowed into the corridor and engulfed the entrance with the smell of fried rice and ketchup. Kyoko's stomach growled.

Ren stifled a laugh. He put his hand over his mouth and cleared out his throat. "Were you hungry? I have plenty for two." He had specifically made two helpings, in the hope that Kyoko would stay for a Valentine's Dinner without even realizing it.

Again a mild flush crept on her face. "No. I wouldn't want to impose. I… I can just get something on my way home."

"Oh, nonsense." Ren smiled as he placed his hand gently on her back and led her to the kitchen. She fumbled a bit, trying to take off her shoes quickly.

At the table, Kyoko practically drooled at the food on the table. It was two helpings of omurice; one for each person. She gulped and clapped her hands. "Itadakimasu." She said as both she and Ren quickly began to eat.

Ren quietly watched Kyoko eat. He smiled with each facial expression she made. He was delighted that he was able to spend Valentine 's Day with the woman he loved. Even though she didn't have the same feelings toward him.

When they finished Kyoko cleaned the dishes, saying that it was the least she could do for such a delicious meal.

They sat in the living room with the tv on. "Um… Mr. Tsuruga." She smiled as she held out a small box toward him. "Happy Valentine's Day. I…I hope you like it. I knew that you probably wouldn't like to get chocolate from even me, so I was having a really hard time of thinking of something for you this year. Especially, since I got you gelee last year. So, when I saw this I immediately thought of you."

"Ah… Thank you." He beamed as he took it. "May I open it?"

She nodded slightly. She was completely embarrassed and stood up before she spoke. "Well, I'm going to go, thank you for everything Mr. Tsuruga. See you."  She was about to run off when Ren grabbed her arm.

"Please wait Ms. Mogami. I have something to give you also." He stated this when he heard a small thud on the floor. Both of them looked down. He bent down to pick up a silver necklace. He stared at it. It was a crown with a royal blue jewel inside it.

"I-I don't know if you wear lots of jewelry, but when I saw it… I thought…" She bit her lip as she looked into Ren's eyes. "I thought it would look very nice on you."  She looked down covering her eyes and blushing face with her bangs.

Ren gripped the necklace. He stood up quickly and walked out of the room to get Kyoko's present. He came back in a rush and handed it to her.

"Here. Open it." He smiled gently.

She took it and looked up at Ren.  "What is it?"

"It's a Valentine's Day gift, obviously. "He chuckled at her confusion.

She looked down at the box and back at him. "But… Girls are the ones-"

"Just open it, Ms.Mogami." He rolled his eyes, wanting her to see the contents inside already.

She looked down at the box and opened it.

Ren smiled and pushed her bangs that obstructed his view of her face. "In America, it's not only the females that give gifts. It's also the men. Because, they only give gifts to the people… that they love."

Kyoko gasped when she saw inside. She pulled out a gold chain. At the end of the chain was a queen's crown with a pink diamond in the middle of it.

Ren smiled as he watched her reaction. "Do you like it… Kyoko?"

Kyoko looked up at him; her face was redder than a rose. "M-Mr. Tsuruga…"

"I guess, we both thought the other would look nice in the same pair of couple's necklaces." He chuckled softly.

Kyoko stayed quiet. She looked back at the necklace and at him. "You shouldn't have gotten this! I shouldn't have gotten you that necklace! Now everyone will think we're a couple! AH! Wasn't the female necklace more expensive than the male one? That's right and it was a real diamond, too! Mr. Tsuruga you have to return this." Kyoko looked up at him with serious eyes.

He stared at her. She hadn't understood at all. He looked away. "How can she be so rude? A friend has given her a gift and she's not willing to accept it? That's just mean. I didn't expect her to be so petty. What a cruel girl, indeed." He mumbled and shook his head.

"Mr. Tsuruga! You do realize that I'm standing right here!?" She yelled and pouted.

"Ah. Right, right. I'm sorry." He covered his mouth.

"Hmpf." Kyoko continued to pout. She sighed and looked at the necklace. He was right, she should just be grateful for receiving such a beautiful gift, especially since it was Ren who gave it to her. Someone who she looked up to and… And, well had some other feelings for. "Thank you, Mr. Tsuruga. I didn't mean to be rude. I love it." She turned to him and beamed a smiled.

He looked at her and smiled lovingly. "You're welcome. And thank you for mine as well. I'll cherish it."

Ren drove Kyoko home. "I'll see you tomorrow then, Mr. Tsuruga." Kyoko smiled from the passenger seat window.

"Yes. Good night." He smiled back and watched her walk away. He sighed, it was another failure. "Well…" He pulled out the necklace she gave him. "At least we have this to somehow connect us." He said faintly. He sighed again and put away the necklace.

As Ren drove away Kyoko peaked back outside to watch him leave. She took out her necklace and blushed. "I guess he really did open it. This feeling… it really is back."
Hello, I wrote this little Valentine's day for the Skip Beat contest. Sorry, if it's not that good, but I just wanted to write a little something about my favorite manga "couple".

It's basically following Ren's side of the story about him giving a Valentine's gift to Kyoko.

Hope you enjoy it. ^^
